Tracy Bjerke, RDN, LD
Registered and Licensed dietitian Nutritionist
Certified Intuitive eating counselor
I am a registered and licensed dietitian in the state of Minnesota. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor helping people cultivate a healthy relationship with food, mind and body. I earned a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Minnesota State University-Mankato, followed by a dietetic internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I am the owner of Bjerke Nutrition and Wellness, LLC whose mission is to help clients heal their relationship with food, find freedom from diet culture and get back to the joy of eating using weight-inclusive, anti-diet approaches to nutrition counseling
My Intuitive Eating journey began about 5 years ago while I was pregnant with my daughter. I knew I wanted to pass on and instill a loving relationship with food and body to her, but I had some work to do. A close friend and fellow dietitian recommended the book Body Kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield, RDN. Let me tell you, the light bulb didn’t just go off, but exploded. The message touched my soul. It was a stellar ah-ha moment not only personally, but professionally. It is what led me to Intuitive Eating and from there I took a leap down the rabbit hole and never looked back.
My life journey began on a small farm in southwest Minnesota. School and career moved my husband and I east across the state where we now reside with our two beautiful children. I am an avid reader, enjoy getting outdoors for long walks, and love creating. I am passionate about hearing people’s stories and understand we all have different lived experiences and privileges that shape how we view the world. I acknowledge my privileges; I am white, straight sized, financially secured, able bodied, cis-gender and had the ability to receive higher education.
Nutrition Therapy Foundations
Intuitive Eating is a self-care eating framework, which integrates instinct, emotion, and rational thought and was created by two dietitians, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch in 1995. Intuitive Eating is a weight-inclusive, evidence-based model with a validated assessment scale and over 250 studies to date.
Health At Every Size® (HAES®)
The Health At Every Size® (HAES®) approach is a continuously evolving alternative to the weight-centered approach to treating clients and patients of all sizes. It is also a movement working to promote size-acceptance, to end weight discrimination, and to lessen the cultural obsession with weight loss and thinness. The HAES approach promotes balanced eating, life-enhancing physical activity, and respect for the diversity of body shapes and sizes.
Ellyn Satter Approaches
The Satter Feeding Dynamics Model (fdSatter) is grounded in a practical and theoretically sound understanding of and trust in normal child development, including growth, and children’s behavioral, nutritional, psychosocial, oral-motor, and physical competence.
